The Well Seasoned Librarian Podcast (04/18-04/22)Reem Assil Arabiyya: Recipes from the Life of an Arab in Diaspora and Micah Siva- Dietitian, Chef, Food Writer.
I had long wanted to interview Reem Assil who is a local (Bay Area) Legend with her Reem's California locations in Oakland and San Francisco. Reem Assil is a “Force of Nature” who is an award-winning Palestinian-Syrian speaker & chef based in Oakland. Assil has worked for over 20 years as a voice for the worker in Nonprofits and the Food Industry locally. Her Cookbook is both inventive, warm, inviting, and mouthwatering. I have made several of the dishes from this cookbook already (the joys of advance copy) and my family already demands regular items from it. I had a wonderful time interviewing Assil who was fun and put me at ease immediately.
Chef, Nutritionist Micah Siva could also be called “Well Travelled.” I loved talking to this Canadian Expat now local Bay Area person, Micah was enchanting, and I also was immediately put at ease by her and her dog “Buckwheat” a “Sheepadoodle.” Micah had a lot to say on Nutrition, Food writing and growing up cooking with family members. I think you will enjoy getting to know Blogger Siva and she is going to be a big name soon! I am betting on it!

“I’m Micah Siva, a Jewish, Canadian born Registered Dietitian and chef living in Northern California, specializing in recipe writing, food photography and story telling through food.
As both a Registered Dietitian and a trained chef, I see food through multiple lenses; as a Dietitian, I can evaluate, create, and tailor recipes and writing to best fit your audience, no matter their dietary preferences, and as a trained chef (from Natural Gourmet Institute, of ICE in New York City), I know the importance of creating recipes that work and taste delicious. My recipes, writing, and work have been seen by over 30+ million hungry viewers worldwide.
When I’m not in the kitchen creating recipes, I’m an avid runner, traveller (50+ countries and counting!), dog mom, black coffee drinker, and always on the hunt for the perfect carrot cake.” (Provided by Author)
