The Well Seasoned Library Podcast 3/28-4/1 Eaters of the Dead/Gusto Bread/Dining with the Dead
This week we have some really great guests on, and I can’t wait for you to hear the episodes.
My talk with author Kevin J. Wetmore Ph. D about his book (Eaters of the Dead: Myths and Realities of Cannibal Monsters) was both informative and fun. While the topic of Cannibalism in mythology is a bit off topic for this Podcast, I did enjoy getting a chance to talk to Kevin and would welcome him on the program again. Guest Arturo Enciso of (Gusto Bread) has a remarkable story of personal triumph in reaching one’s dream. Not only was Arturo’s story inspiring but his bakery sounds phenomenal, and I hope one day soon to visit it. Arturo Enciso is a baker from Lebec, CA that has called Long Beach his home for over 10 years. As a self-taught baker for the last 7+ years, he is grown his hobby into a career with his bakery.
Speaking with Mariana Nuño Ruiz and Ian McEnroe about their book (Dining with the Dead) was like talking with two old friends. Both have had such a wonderful journey with their book and have had a lot of remarkable stories to tell about the process of getting their book published. Their work is a terrific book about The Day of the Dead and it a beautiful compendium of information, recipes and gorgeous photographs.
I hope you get to hear these wonderful conversations and get to know more about these authors who I really had a wonderful time talking with.

Mariana Nuño Ruiz and Ian McEnroe (Dining with the Dead) The Well-Seasoned Librarian Season 6 Episode 10
Bio
Mariana Nuño Ruiz was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and comes from a long line of strong women. Margarita, her traditional grandma, kindled her passion for traditional Mexican cooking at an early age. Ana Fernanda, her modern grandma, inspired her to become a woman with a professional career and to see the world with wider eyes. The combination of their teachings ignited Mariana’s love for cooking and her curiosity beyond the kitchen, to learn about ingredients, their origins, and the history of foods. Thanks to her mom full support and hard work, Mariana earned an architecture degree from ITESO university in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. After working as an architect for more than eight years, she followed her bliss to acquire a culinary arts degree from AWC in Arizona. She has cooked in restaurants, catered, baked, and sculpted and decorated cakes. She also likes to teach cooking classes and workshops. Mariana enjoys mambo, food history, creating recipes, and collecting new and rare cookbooks. She also loves chiles and worships tomato season. Her last supper would be frijolitos de la olla. When she is not cooking, she is thinking about cooking.
Ian McEnroe was born in Michigan but grew up in Texas. His interest in photography started with a manual camera on which he learned to shoot film. Ian earned his Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas, which led to his award-winning photography and a long career as a photographic consultant and an instructor to hundreds of students at all levels of learning. When he is not taking photos, he enjoys painting, jazz, collecting records, reading, coffee, and, of course, good food. (Author Website)
